Blackmans Bay House

New Residence, Blackmans Bay

Designed for a semi-retired couple, this new house seeks to obtain the best from the site in terms of views and orientation and at the same time addresses a series of specific brief requirements that will ensure its relevance for many years to come. The site sits in a peaceful cul-de-sac with great water views and sunny aspect. Utilising the slope of the land, the solution is two-storey, with level entry at both levels.

Completed : January 2015

Builder : Jackman Builders Pty Ltd

Engineer : Joe Mamic & Associates

Photographer : Property Pix

The brief for this house originated in mid 2013 after the client - a semi-retired professional couple - had reached the conclusion that their previous house was going to be unsuitable for them moving forward into their senior years.

Our brief was to design a new home that was light, warm and accommodating and, very importantly, that would require little exterior maintenance. Also very important, was the need to plan for ease of access and use, in anticipation of challenges that sometimes come with advancing age, but also to make the house pleasant and manageable for a relative who has some mobility issues. Circulation zones are wider, doors are wider and spaces planned a little larger.

The judicious use of Tasmanian timbers and carefully selected colours contributes warmth to the feel of spaces.

The excellent craftsmanship exhibited in the finished work is a testimony to the highly skilled building team.
